Platinum - Buy, Sell, Hold?
With platinum hovering at around $1000 I am interested to see what the collective wisdom of GIM has to say.
Answer the poll. |
Re: Platinum - Buy, Sell, Hold?
Buy for sure as long as it is close to spot. If it drops more, premiums will rise. Now is the perfect time to buy.

I would hold at this point, I would buy if I see the 800s area, also been buying palladium since the tank when I can find it.

I'm a fool and bought last weekend while it was $967. Try to find it now!
I can't help it, I like the stuff! $1,400 here we come! http://www.intcurrency.com/images/su...num-Eagles.jpg |

If you can find it, buy it.

Re: Platinum - Buy, Sell, Hold?
Hold. I expect it to drop back down.
Automotive demand is low, weak economy should strengthen the dollar, Russian producers should be cash strapped --> price in dollars should recede. Unless any of that changes... |
Re: Platinum - Buy, Sell, Hold?
Regardless of supply and demand, how long do you think some thing can stay BELOW production cost? Probably not very long, because all un-profitable business eventually all need to be shut down or go bankrupt, unless price comes back to a profitable level.
Currently South African platinum mines need to see platinum price above $1500 to just break even. More so because the base metal prices, like nickel, has also dropped big, making it even harder to turn a profit. Platinum price will have to raise to at least the production cost, in time, and in real purchase power terms, not just in dollar price. That is one thing you can safely bet on. Palladium is even a better buy. Russia's Norilsk Nickel produces 45% of the world's palladium. They are operating at heavy loss due to weak nickel price, they must slash production or shut down, as EVEN with palladium reaching $1000 they can still not make a profit at current nickel price. |
Re: Platinum - Buy, Sell, Hold?
Trade even with gold soon; that makes PT undervalued.

It would be good to trade into it in a small way as it gives you another basket - King Solomon mentioned in PROVERBS to have seven baskets for investments.
Sadly James 5 mentions we will have real bad financial and labor problems about now. :bawling: |
